Travel and Tour

Dubai Desert Car Safari and Tour

We have made two trips to Dubai, the first one was during the summer month of June and it was terribly hot, up to 45 degrees. I remember, there was no cold water in our hotel in the morning. All the water pipelines were already heated by the sun. It was cooler in the evening yet we decided to cut short the tour because of too much heat.  That was the year when europe had the heatwave as well.  Finally we took a second chance in a cooler month of December. It was just the right time and fair good weather and right temperature. Only kids and I decided to take the tour as Steph reserved his days of holiday in France.

It was still a foreign city for us, not knowing anyone there except just the 3 of us finding our way.  We rented a car with a driver and tour around the city. Dubai, is known as the "Venice of the Gulf", the chief port and commercial centre of the country, a dynamic international business centre and a laid-back tourist escape. It is a city where the sophistication of the 21st century walks hand and hand with the simplicity of a bygone era. A cosmopolitan society with an international lifestyle, yet with a culture deeply rooted in the Islamic traditions of Arabia

The creek of dubai and its famous skycrapers

We visited first the Dubai museum located in Al Fahidi Fort, an ancient historical building in Dubai. It contains a collection of artifacts and archaelogical objects like alabaster and potteries, way back in the 1st & 2nd millenium BC and the Islamic era from the 7th to 13th century. An awesome visit with new acquired knowledge of a deeper origins. Then we went to Gold Shouk, the gold market in Dubai. A crowded place yet it glitters with all the gold items on sale. We browsed as well the market place. The next day we visited some landmarks like the mosque, arabian tower and the beach and then go to their famous shopping complex called "city centre". People are so disciplined, no tip is accepted

The Jumeirah Mosque

On our last day, we booked a desert car safari, a dune driving experience we looked forward with excitement. Our driver picked us up in our hotel, very kind and accomodating one. We passed in front of hectares of land of the king's palace. This off-road adventures took us from the bustle of Dubai city to the desert of golden sand dunes. We reached the meeting place and waited for some cars to arrive.  When everyone was assembled, we buckled up and off rolling uphill. Then, I felt like vomiting so I closed my eyes and just feel the sensation of up and down movement. Colleen was feeling uneasy too, I told her to close her eyes as well. It was better after until we had our first stop

As the sun descends into the horizon, we stop to take photos of the sunset while standing on top of the fading desert dunes. Desert sunset is really beautiful, the color of the sun mixed with the fading light is just a magnificent view to look at. Then we start to move again, this time with one wheel side on a stiff descent, we shrieked and laughed with excitement as the car goes up and down the dunes. Alexandre is undefeated for calmness. The rides gave him an easy smiles of fun and excitement. Finally, it's getting dark. We have to make an offshot uphill climb at one stand. I was scared thinking we might be stucked up in the desert at night time. We buckled up again. took a breath, our experienced and excellent driver position the car well and accelerated to the max, climbing uphill non-stop. He made it with a steady stop and we applauded a job well done. A car went down backward as it did not accelerate enough. We almost bumped on it but our driver swivelled quickly to the right and on to the track straight up hill. It was an amazing experience of fun, fear and excitement.

This is how our climbed up the hill, 300 meters high

We now head to the campsite where a convoy of camels awaits our arrival for short camel rides. We reached the village and relaxed in the  traditional Bedouin tents. Enjoy an Arabian barbeque buffet dinner beside a blazing bonfire with traditional cups of coffee and dates, underneath the pitch-black night sky. After dinner, we settled on the Majlis (low cushions) and watched the belly dancing show performed by a beautiful, charming arabian girl. We were entertained by the dance to traditional Arabic music and we were welcome to join along. Kids have fun dressing up to male and female bedouin garments. After a satisfying adventure, we headed back to the city at almost 11:00pm

It must be both fun and interesting to watch a belly dancer in person. I only saw them in the movies and they really have bellies. (smile*). Thanks for sharing one of your travels. Those are interesting architecture, they blended their culture when they built the building in modern times, huh? that's a steep hill indeed.... have a nice day, Phoebz... Take care.

Hi barbs, it was, but then the thought of wanting to experience it is nicer. Mas nakakatakot ang roaler coaster mo, I guess I will never do what you did in knott's. Filipinos are everywhere in our hotel, mall, restaurants and airports. They are friendly but looking tired. Talagang bossing sila to the heap of time.

How nice ba sa inyo Phoebs, always on the go, traveling, very exciting . Not too many people can do that, that living life to the fullest when you are able to do what pleases you especially like seeing the rest of the world. I wish we can do that, too, but it's too far na, almost impossible na unless we win a lottery . That's the way to live, enjoy the wonders of nature. Anyway, at least we can see some photos since we can't travel sa mga places na beyond our reach . Indi man pod mag travel akon bana sa mga ganong places kay kabalo ka na dangerous kay being sought after sila... . Okay regards mi, and have a nice weekend.

Hi Anna, thanks for the note. Yah, it's fun to travel. True, but there's no where in the world where you can say you are safe. You can be in your luxurious bedroom, when it's your time, it's your time. Although I can understand the stand of not exposing targetted nationalities to the front line. Which is a good cautionary action. Anyway, take care and hope your pregnancy is going well
